HP #6

Hello All!

As my loyal readers know, I am a Harry Potter Fan(atic). Saturday, #6 will be gracing itself on the shelves of book retailers everywhere in the US and most other nations as well. I and my friend, will be going to Sam's Saturday morning to pick up our very own copy of the much anticipated book.

My own personal things I'd like to see coming from this book, as far as more information about characters, are:
a)More background in Harry's geneology
b)Dumbledore's geneology
c)the Family Black
d)see if Ron and Hermione ever "hook up"
e) learn more about Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom
f)More of the D.A. (Dumbledore's Army)

There are other things I'd like to have explained or expanded upon, but that will do for now.

How many pages do you reckon it will run to this time? a couple of thousand. Man, that woman needs a editor.

I haven't actually read any of these.

Have you tried His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman - they are quite excellent - great read for kids. Although slightly anti-religion....

I think it was stated that it would be over 800, but maybe that was the last book. Personally I can't get too many details as long as they apply to the crux of the story. i like a good "back story" as it were.

I read Anne Rice and love a good gothic novel or even novellas, which do have a lot of religous themes to them. I'm thinking anti-religous writers may not be my thing, but it wouldn't be fair to say I won't read it because of that reason. I'd have to see if the "local library" had it in stock. again, making a note...

Phillip Pullman sounds familiar. Has he writen much? Is he an English author? I'll have to google him.

Damn, I just heard gunshots again. Rapid fire, 3rd time this week. Ok. it stopped. Is there alot of that in London or the big cities in England? We kind of live in the "hood". Not our neighbourhood but a major intersection to the south of us. Also there are apartments all around us. Sometimes I hear gunfire. It's usually later than this. I better go. Type to you later. Good night.

Bloody hell!! Gunshots!!

No hardly, guns are illegal in the UK - we have loads more stabbings.

Gun crime is on the rise here, but no where near the insane, out of control epidemic levels you guys are at (UK deaths by gun crimes yearly 100 odd, US 20000 - hmm, and out population is a fifth the size of yours...interesting).

I don't think I've EVER heard a gunshot - oh no, I lie, I lived near a farm when I was younger and occasionally I'd hear the farmer shooting stuff (foxes, old collies, pikey children). But that's it.

What do you think about the gun laws there?

Give the books a go, you might find that they are not as bad as you thought. If you find you can't stomache what is in them, you can always put it down and not read it again. That's what I do. Check it out from the library so you don't have to pay for the read, this way you won't have lost anythig but time if you don't like it.

We in Texas love our guns, although I personally don't own one, and because of Owen, I'd rather not have one in the house. Dave feels the same way. It's just a bit disconcerting when you hear gunshots 3-4 times in a week. Usually, it's one every 4 or so months. After I went to bed last night I heard somebody fire off 10 rounds very methodically. That scared me, but I didn't hear a scream or sirens. It just sounded so close.

Maybe Lillie could give you more stats on gun crime here in Houston, she's a correctional officer for the Texas Prison System.

Thanks for the concern. :-) and for visiting Dave's site. Hopefully that will cheer him up, since he's so tired from working all the time.

Sorry Lill~ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It has some scary elements. I wouldn't recomend any children under 7-8 watch it. Maybe older even, rent it and watch it after the kids have gone tro bed and then you can make your decision whether to let the kiddos see the film. I liked it though, it stayed pretty close to the book.

i love the books. She doesn't "write down" to the children. There are words that kids and adults might actually have to crack the dictionary for. That's part of what I love about her. Besides, I just love fantasy/sci-fi. Guess I'd have to since I play d&d... For me, I have enough "reality", let's have some Escapism! YeeeHaaaa!

Thanks for visiting Dave's page and leaving Happy Birthdays!!

You might be interested to know that Bloomsbury are holding a Hogwarts dinner at Edinburugh Castle to celebrate the books publication.
The hall will be decorated to look like Hogwarts (not difficult) and a full feast (all the stuff you get at the opening terms dinner) laid on.
J K Rowling will be giving a reading to the assembled children.

Thanks Garf~
I did actually know this. I get Harry Potter Google news updates via e-mail. That's how much of a HP geek I am. [g] If I lived in that area, I'd be there in a heartbeat. As it is, I might be in L.A. for a talent search for my son, while the Harry Potter premier is going on. I hope to maybe get a glimpse of the kiddos. Well, there not exactly kids anymore are they... Thanks for the information. :-)
